In response to President Obama's 2011 State of the Union Address where he mentioned transportation (specifically high speed rail) as one of his three priorities for 2011, the Republican Study Committee (RSC) drafted a preliminary proposal, The Spending Reduction Act of 2011, that cuts $2.5 billion in high speed rail grants, eliminates the federal transit program, and decimates Amtrak's funding.
Despite the many benefits of high speed rail, 165 GOP House members are still proposing these cuts.
